 | C. Lawrence Chiswell, D.M.D., MS Ed. Dr. Chiswell holds the rank of Professor in the Bluegrass Community and Technical College's Dental Hygiene Program. Having entered the final year of a "Phased Retirement" option, this Fall will be Dr. Chiswell's final semester with the program. Current courses taught include Oral Biology I and Local Anesthesia for the Dental Hygienist. Dr. Chiswell also holds the rank of Professor Emeritus at the University of Kentucky. He has been a consultant to numerous national and international organizations, including such varying groups as the ADHA, the Manitoba, Canada Regional Government, and ARAMCO, The Saudi Arabian - American Oil Company. He is a past Chair of the American Dental Educators Association's National Dental Hygiene Directors. Currently, Dr. Chiswell is an educational consultant to the American Dental Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation, and is a Western Regional Examination Board Examiner. As a result of his teaching and clinical experience, he has been invited to address numerous professional organizations throughout the United States and Europe. |  | Debbie Kelly, R.D.H., MS Ed., is a Full Professor and the program's First Year Coordinator. She coordinates the First Year Students in Pre-Clinic and their first clinical experience in treating patients. Professor Kelly enjoys teaching clinical Dental Hygiene I and II and Periodontics for the Dental Hygienist I. She also serves as Faculty Advisor to the Student American Dental Hygienists’ Association. Mrs. Kelly's dental experience includes: private practice, University of Cincinnati's Department of Otolaryngology and Maxillofacial Surgery, Head and Neck Tumor Clinic, Coordinator of Dental Assisting Program and Veteran's Administration Dental Clinic. In 2000, Mrs. Kelly was nominated to be honored in the publication of "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." She was selected for this honor by being designated as "the teacher who made a difference" by a former distinguished graduate. Mrs. Kelly was also named the "Outstanding Dental Hygienist of the Year" in 2000 by the BlueGrass District Dental Hygienists' Society. In 2008, BCTC's Student American Dental Hygienists' Association (ADHA) received a National Community Service Award. |  | Janella Spencer, R.D.H., MS Ed., Professor in Dental Hygiene, is the Coordinator of the Dental Hygiene Program at Bluegrass Community and Technical College. She coordinates both the rotation sites and the second year clinical experience at the Dental Hygiene Clinic at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College. Prior to coming to BCTC, Ms. Spencer spent 10 years in private practice in various locations around Central Kentucky. Ms. Spencer's interests include special needs patients, breast cancer, practice management, and community dental health. Her interest in special needs patients led her to complete a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, University of Kentucky. Ms. Spencer was named the "Outstanding Dental Hygienist of the Year" in1992 by the BlueGrass District Dental Hygienists' Society and received the "NISOD Excellence Award" for outstanding contribution to teaching and learning in 1994. She is listed in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers". She serves as the Faculty Rep on the BCTC Board of Trustees and is a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation. She also serves on the Dean's Advisory Board -College of Health Sciences, University of Kentucky where she was named one of the outstanding alumni in 2006. | Joanna Aalboe, R.D.H., BS, Temporary Full Time Instructor in Dental Hygiene. She is currently pursuing a Master degree in Public Health to be conferred in Dec. 2009. She currently teaches Oral Biology II, Dental Materials, Perio II and is a Clinical Advisor to the 2nd year class. Her research interests include oral-systemic disease correlations. She recently completed a research study that was accepted to be presented at the American Public Health Association's (APHA)137th Annual Meeting and Exposition in Philadelphia. She has a special interest in dental mission work and has partcipated in missions to Ecuador, Honduras and Mexico. She is a member of the American Dental Hygieinsts' Association and the American Public Health Association. | 
| Mary W. Drake, R.D.H., BS, Temporary Full Time Instructor in Dental Hygiene. Ms. Drake is a 1998 graduate of the Dental Hygiene Program at Lexington Community College (currently BCTC). She completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Education at Eastern Kentucky University in July 2008. She teaches the first year students in Instrumentation during the fall semester and is a CLinical Advisor to the 2nd year class. In the Spring semester, she teaches Dental Radiology and is a Clinical Advisor to the 1st year class. Ms. Drake also continues to work part time in private practice. Prior to teaching at BCTC, Ms. Drake worked full time for 10 years in private practice. She has worked in various Applalachian areas, such as Eastern Kentucky, Southwest Virginia, and West Virginia. Ms. Drake's interests include public health dentistry and volunteering. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists' Association and is currently serving as Public Health Chair for the Bluegrass District Dental Hygienists' Association.
