THE DUTCH TWIN STUDY BY: CRYSTAL BAILEY

Objective: This Study is the association between exercise participation and well being. This is a co-twin Study by J.H Stubbe. He investigated the association between leisure time exercises participation and well-being and examined the causality underlying this association.

Method of Study: The association between exercise participation and well being was around 80,000 subjects age range 18-65 years old from the Netherlands twin registry. They were tested with the co-twin control method in 162 monozygotic (MZ) twin pair, 174 Dizygotic Twin and sibling pairs, and 2842 unrelated pairs

Introduction: There are a large number of people who is concerned on the effects of exercises and mental health. This my depend on well-being or genetics makeup of someone. During this study they took twins from Form The Netherlands twin registry to study the difference between causal effect of exercise participation on well being and an association of genetic factors.

-This Graph Presents the association between exercise participation and well being , and due to shared Family environments factors. The MZ and DZ twins were very similar within the study. Since the family environment is shared by both types of twins. This does affect the well being and exercise on the twins and will make them resemble each other for both traits. The unrelated pairs will again be significantly higher than twins due to their genetic makeup.

-These Two Graphs displays life satisfaction and happiness as a function of exercise status with the MZ group for life satisfaction and happiness a similar pattern was found. But the Unrelated pairs, there was not a pattern or association between the two. For the DZ Group study between happiness and life satisfaction there was no association.

Conclusion: Exerciser on average more satisfied with their lives and happier than non-exercisers. The association appears to be similar by genetic factors that influence both exercise behavior and well- being.
