BCTC is offering this 4 hr credit Advanced Listening and Speaking Class at the Downtown Education Center on East High Street. ESL students will improve comprehension and communication in both social and academic settings. Instruction will include listening skills for academic note-taking and small group discussion. Students will be expected to lead and share in class discussions based on reading and authentic listening materials. Students will also present orally in front of the class. Entrance to the class is based on Compass ESL score, through completion of ESL 012.You need the following information to register for this class

ESL 020 Intermediate Reading and Vocabulary
This is a 4 credit hour class that meets three times a week beginning at 12:00 until 12:50 pm and for an additional hour on Friday at 1:00 pm to 1:50 PM. Students will expand vocabulary, increase reading speed, and improve reading skills as they practice reading in English.
Students will be recommended to this course based on the ESL Compass placement examination. The Compass test is free and available at the Assessment Center in Room 109 Oswald Building at the Cooper Campus.

ESL 30 College Reading and Vocabulary Development for High-Intermediate Non-Native English Speakers
High-intermediate level ESL students will master fundamental reading skills, improve critical reading, and further vocabulary development. Students will be introduced to a variety of genres, such as newspaper articles and essays, poems, short stories, charts, graphs and college-level content textbooks. Through the selected readings, this course will foster cultural awareness, comprehension, and interaction. The readings and activities introduced in the course will allow students to engage in meaningful dialogue, and in the process, refine their English skills.

ESL 33 High-Intermediate Conversation for Non-Native English Speakers
High-intermediate level ESL students will acquire the most practical and widely used American idioms and verbal phrases. In addition, students will become more familiar with North American Culture and will be able to prevent cultural misunderstandings. Non-native English speakers will continue to improve reading, listening comprehension and pronunciation skills. Prerequisite: ESL 032 or placement test.
