General guidelines

If you are an employee of the Department of Corrections, a KCTCS faculty or staff member, or a public/private entity who is requesting services for a current inmate or ex-offender, please note the following:

  1. All current inmates or ex-offenders may receive assistance when obtaining placement within post-secondary institutions or assistance with finding employment. Below is the order of “preference”:
    1. If one is a graduate, current or ex-student of the Bluegrass or Maysville Community & Technical Colleges correctional-offered vocational programs.
    2. If one is a graduate, current or ex-student of the Bluegrass and Maysville Community & Technical Colleges correctional-offered adult education programs.
    3. If one is a graduate, current or ex-student of the Jefferson Community & Technical Colleges correctional-offered vocational programs.
    4. If one is a graduate, current or ex-student of the Jefferson Community & Technical Colleges correctional-offered adult education programs.
    5. All other current incarcerated individuals or ex-offenders.
  2. In seeking assistance, please submit the proper paperwork (available on the left hand side of your screen) by the preferred method of on-line submission, by fax or by regular mail. The more time that this office has, the better: not only to work any issues, but for the requesting individual to complete and submit paperwork such as financial aid forms to the respected agencies.
  3. In regards to placement assistance into one of the union’s apprentice programs, the same order of preference will be followed as stated above. All applicants need to have a completed high school diploma or GED. If a requesting incarcerated individual or ex-offender has not completed his or her secondary education credential, then he or she is encouraged to attend school. Adult education classes are available to everyone at no cost within all state-operated correctional facilities, as well as at most jails and half-way houses in the state of Kentucky. In addition, Kentucky Adult Education offers free services in each county. For more information, please go to http://www.kyae.ky.gov/.
